Postcard Competition Results
A
bold painting of Worthing’s beach-huts has won the postcard
Competition 2004, which promotes art and artists from across the
county.
For
2004, RAG and Newnum Art have brought together innovative art,
inspired
pictures and unusual views, which have been inspired by West
Sussex. The work, in every media, every shape and every size, all
takes its inspiration from the county and was on show as part of
the Artists & Makers festival, before winner Joanna Bland
was chosen by a panel of RAG artists.
Joanna will see her work produced as a limited edition Giclee
print and as postcards, and five runners-up will have work printed
as postcards.
The runners-up are Michelle Dawson, Eva L, Louisa Cook, Sally
Williams and Patrick Duff. Between them they produced images of
Worthing, Shoreham, Cowfold and Bosham in a wide variety of styles
and media.
Early
in August, RAG and Newnum Art will mail the postcards, with a
message promoting the county’s art scene, to opinion formers
around the country.
Last year, everyone from The Tate’s director to Tony Blair
received a postcard from Worthing. "We’re not just staging
a great exhibition," said RAG spokesman Dan Thompson,
"but also shouting from the rooftops about how great the West
Sussex arts scene is."
A limited number of postcards are currently available free of
charge from Newnum Art, Oxford Road, Worthing and Worthing’s
Tourist Information Centre in Chapel Road.
